The COI or Coefficient of Inbreeding is a percentage on how inbred a dog is.
For example:
Parent/child or sibling pairing will result in COI of 25%
Half siblings will have a COI of 12.5%
A single common great grand parent will have a COI of 3.1%.

FCI recommendation for rare breeds is that COI should not exceed 10%.

It is calculated with this formula:

Ancestor Loss Coefficient or AVK is when the same ancestor appears more than once in the pedigree.
In 5 generations there are 62 possible ancestors. If 3 out of 62 ancestors appears twice, then the dog only has 59 different ancestors. The AVK is calculated out of the no. of the ancestors / total no. of possible ancestors.
The best dogs have as close to 100% AVK as possible.
