Jay Elle's (#97) Survival Course in FP.
The original help section is good for those just getting started, but a lot of people don't know where to go from there, so I have made up this page. I hope to keep adding my knowledge to it, and if you think I have something wrong, please contact me and I will alter it. The game is constantly changing, after all.

In this section, I assume that you have gone into the help section already and have a basic idea of the game, and have an idea were everything is. Please remember that this is designed to help the average lost new person, and does not cover all aspects of the game. Most of the fun is finding out the little details yourself!

Since this file has grown so much, I have put these quick links in to help you find what you want!

DOGS    Back to Top
There are a few things you can do with dogs...

Feeding
Dogs can have up to 3 servings of food. These foods carry a small chance of increasing your dog's stats. It may be just me, but the better food (i.e. more expensive) seems to raise stats more often. Still, start with cheaper food until you have got the game sussed out. You cannot overfeed - your dog will refuse when it is full, but don't think you have to stuff your dog until it is full. Feeding is not required, but it could improve the dog's stats and chance of winning so it is worth it. You can feed one or two servings a day if you prefer, or none at all.
Go to Market --> Food to buy.

Toys
A happy dog is a winning dog. Part of a dog's competition score depends on its happiness. Toys have limited use, so play with your dog to make him/her happy (see the green bar on dog's page) then stop, otherwise you will use up lots of toys. There are many types of toys, go with the cheaper type to start with, then go to the more expensive as you get money. The old tennis ball is the best to start with, as it has 50 uses and is cheap.
Go to Market --> Toys.

Accessories
Accessories can do things to your dogs stats. You will have to experiment to find out what each object does. Each dog can have one item on at a time. You can add them from your inventory page, and remove them from the dog's page.
Go to Market - Accessories.

Training (For Competitions)
This is the most complicated area. From personal experience, do not train a dog in anything until you have an idea what is happening. Firstly, look at your dog. I suggest that you open two new windows, put one window on your dog and the other one on Atlas --> Competitions --> Competition Information.

Find the 3 stats that your dog is strongest in. If it's highest three are lower than 15, I would not recommend training it right now. Feed it, run it through a training area for a while and get it's stats stronger. When you have found it's best three stats, look for them on the information page, preferably together. Can't find one that has all your dogs best stats? It's okay. Find out what it's fourth best is, and look again. Make sure you look carefully, as you can only retrain your dog once, and that is using a professional trainer or a ditto card - both of which will cost more than you are likely to have right now! Certainly more than I have!

Now you know what show your dog is strongest in, go to Atlas --> Training and get the dog trained in that area.

Vetting
Vaccination is required to compete, and while expensive, is a lot cheaper than if your dog gets sick. With illnesses currently running rampant around FP, any unvaccinated dog is likely to become sick in under 10 minutes of navigating the site. If you can, use a player's clinic. It is much cheaper. Go to Atlas --> Clinics for player clinics. Want to open your own clinic? See the player section.

Competing
To compete, dogs must have been trained in the specific area and also be vaccinated. Go to Atlas --> Competitions, then enter your search criteria. You will then get a list of shows meeting that criteria. To enter your dog - click the name of the show, then your dogs name. Hit Back a couple of times on your browser to return to the list. You can also create up to five shows per day from the comp page - simply click 'Create Competition' and enter the details. Most people make shows to match their dogs. Dogs must be 2 to compete.

TITLES    Back to Top
So, you've trained your dog... and this WEIRD thing as appeared in front of its name, and you are wondering WHAT ON EARTH??? Well, here is your guide. The first letter has to do with the dogs level. Now you are wondering... how do I get my dog up a level??? To go up a level, your dog requires a certain number of first, second, or third places.

Title Places Required
N Novice 0
AN Advanced Novice 15
JPn Junior Pro Novice 30
IPn Intermediate Pro Novice 60
Pn Pro Novice 90
APn Advanced Pro Novice 120
JA Junior Advanced 150
IA Intermediate Advanced 200
A Advanced 250
JM Junior Master 300
IM Intermediate Master 350
M Master 400
JEx Junior Excellent 450
IEx Intermediate Excellent 500
Ex Excellent 550
Ch Champion 600
GC Grand Champion 700
NC National Champion 800
CC Continental Champion 900
WC World Champion 1000
UC Universal Champion 1500
IC Incredible Champion 2000
SC Star Champion 3000

The second letter (or set of letters) has to do with what the dog has been trained in. After all, it can't have a level in nothing, can it!

Title
A Agility
E Earthdog Trials
Fl Flyball
Fr Frisbee
H Herding
HFT Hunting/Field Trials
O Obedience
P Pulling
R Racing
Sc Schutzhund
S Sledding
Sh Show
T Tracking
W Waterwork

So, a dog with PnFr is a Pro Novice in Frisbee.
Also, about leveling. If your dog is level 1 and it has 1200 points, a button saying 'Level Dog' will appear. When you press it, your dog will be levelled and 1000 points taken away, and it will have 200 left. The 'Left to Level' tells you how many more points your dog needs to get to the next level. A level 1 dog with 200 points will have 800 left to level, because you need 1000 for level 2.

KENNELS Back to Top
Your kennel size limits the amount of dogs you can have. You can have up to 2 times your kennel size. So, if your kennel size is 4, 4 x 2 = 8, so you can have eight dogs. To upgrade your kennel, go to the bottom of the 'home' page. Only upgrade if you need to, and I recommend that you start with only one or two dogs until you get the game.

Training Area
If you have a kennel size 5 or bigger, you can make a training area. A link will appear above your description. Add training items from your inventory. Working your dogs in a training area has a pretty good chance of increasing a stat by +2. If your kennel is smaller than 5 or you don't want a training area, use a public one. To buy training items for your own area, go to Market --> Training.

PLAYERS    Back to Top
As a player, you can open a shop, (go to Market --> Your Shop), get a job (see below), play games, and, of course, own a kennel. Your kennel and shop pages can be decorated with html, but please don't go overboard as it takes ages to load.

Employment Agency
Getting a job increases your pay each week, and can give you certain privileges. To see what jobs are available, go to Atlas --> Employment. This page tells you what job you currently have, how manu upx (user experience points) you have, and what the jobs you can get are. You get 10 upx when you join up, and 1 for every day you are a member. You can also get upx by referring people and buy donating real money to support FP. You need 10 to get a job, and you will need a certain number to be promoted (different amount for each job). To open a clinic, you need to be a VET. Not a vet trainee, but a full vet. So many people didn't get this...

MONEY    Back to Top
So, you want to make money? Spent most of your $30,000 already? That's okay... there are plenty of ways to make money. You can get a job, which increases your bank payment. You can also breed and sell the pups, as well as open a shop. Playing games can also get you money. Please don't ask other players for money. If you run out, wait until next week for bank money or sell something. People feel mean for saying no and will not like you for asking. We all, yes, everyone who is a member of FP, started out were you are now - poor and confused!!!

Hopefully, you now have an idea of what is going on with the game, and can have fun playing it without being too confused! Explore and become familiar with what you can do, and you will be fine in no time. AND REMEMBER - if you are unsure, read the help, FAQ's and other messages on the help board. Chances are, someone else has been wondering the same thing. If you really can't find the answer, ask! Questions are only stupid if someone else has already answered, and you can find the answer!

Oh, and one last thing, this game is not like Horse Land. I put it bluntly because it is true. All the people that play FP enjoy it because it isn't like HL. Here, we are a fairly close little community, and while players will undoubtedly disagree, there is a big difference between expressing differing views and being rude about it. This is the difference between FP and HL. There is not, and should not be, any elitism, olds and noobs, or anything else. FP is new, and people who joined on day one haven't really been members for that long either! Most of all, ENJOY YOURSELF, and allow other players to do so as well!!!
